About the initiative

Short version

The European Public Order Initiative is an independent, non-partisan citizens' petition that calls for firm, lawful measures against riot violence in order to protect the right to peaceful protest.

Long version

The European Public Order Initiative is an independent, non-partisan citizens' petition addressed to European and national decision-makers. It asks for five measures: to protect peaceful protest; to stop arson, looting and attacks on people promptly and prosecute them consistently; to allow armed forces to support civilian authorities as a last resort, under civilian command and parliamentary oversight; to hold people without legal residence who take part in serious violence temporarily in humane facilities and, after due process, prioritise their return, never in breach of the principle of non-refoulement; and to strengthen a shared European entry ban for people convicted of serious public-order offences, with individual assessment and judicial review. Every measure must be adopted democratically and respect national constitutions, the European Convention on Human Rights and the Charter of Fundamental Rights of the European Union. The petition is not affiliated with the European Union or any of its institutions.
